Cascades

Since today was the first beautiful, warm day we have had in a few weeks, we decided to go see the Cascades. They are waterfalls that are fed from Mountain Lake. We weren't the only ones who had this idea the area was packed, but it was still a very nice hike.

The trail followed the river all the way up to the falls. We stopped at a little fishing hole so the dogs could get a drink of water. Hershey being an adventurous little thing went out on the ice, and it just so happened that it was a bit thinner in that area. So in falls Hershey, he reaction was very funny. He was surprised at first.

Then decided it wasnt so bad, he just got to go swimming.

Then it got too cold. And hershey was done drinking

But as soon as we got up to the falls, Hershey had to go back out on to the ice, and took me with him this time. It was a good thing it was frozen solid in this place.

Bones was a little bit more cautious and wouldnt come out on to the ice. I had to feed him ice chips so he would get some water.

Robert and I were able to go out on to the river, and pretty close to the middle where the water was actually running. It was frozen the much.

Robert went out to see how strong the ice was in the middle. And it was strong, but Robert stepped on a thin stop and his foot went in. He also was able to pick up a huge chunk of ice. It was a good 4 inches think, and a few feet wide.

This area was sort of closed off by a log, so I let Hershey, well he took me, out on to the ice to see what it was all about. Then Hershey thought it would be strong on the other side of the log, which was closer to the falls, I didnt quite just the ice there, so hershey was stopped from going all the way over there. But I was able to get a cute family picture of the 4 of us.

Anyways, we were able to get a few good pictures then it started to get overcrowded. And I dont care much for the crowds, so we started our way back to the van. As we were headed back a huge ice chunk fell off teh cliff, it hit the ground with a really loud bang. It was really cool to see.

On the way back Robert twisted his ankle pretty bad, cause the steps and rocks were still covered with snow and ice. Plus the ground wasnt that level.

We stopped at a nice picnic area to have some lunch, and got another picutre of us.

And we had to let the dogs get some more water, so back to the middle of the river I go. It was a fun day for us. And a nice outting for the dogs. on the ride back home they laid down in the back of the van and didnt move until we were home. It was a great day.
