Today was Liberal's International Pancake Day. It is a the Fat Tuesday (Tuesday before lent) and they put on a talent show, eating contest, Miss Liberal Scholarship pageant, the RACE and of Course a PANCAKE breakfast. It started back in 1950 when the mayor of Liberal called up Olney England and suggested that we become "sister" cities and we compete in the race. The story of how it started is long and but the basics are that a lady in 1445 was using up the last of her fat when the church bells rang for service. Instead of letting her pancakes burn she ran out the door with her skillet in hand and ran to the church. That is how the race started. now the two cities compete to see whose race winner had the fastest time It is really cool. Kids that day off school and all.
Anyways we went to the breakfast and parade.
They made Mickey Mouse pancakes for the little ones, Brittannia had to butter her pancake.
